In March 2020, Medium Rare Chef Apparel shifted its production to make reusable face masks to help slow the spread of COVID-19. In doing so, we supported frontline heroes through our donation program and helped keep Canadian workers employed. As businesses and services reopen and we return to our new normal, we want you to know Medium Rare has you covered – from aprons to face masks. Our face masks are made right here in Canada. Let’s support our local businesses and local charities while we help keep each other – and our employees and customers – safe.

If you’ve worn our aprons, you know Medium Rare never skimps on quality or style. Our face masks offer the same promise – they’re washable, durable, breathable and will make you look and feel like you’re ready to take on the challenge.

Using an approved design by Sault Area Hospital (SAH) officials in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, our face masks feature a pocket where a filter can be placed for added protection, as well as a soft wire to help form the mask to your face. Instructions and filter template are included with each face mask shipment. These masks are not a substitute for the N95, surgical or procedural mask.

HOW OFTEN CAN I USE THE FILTER?

Just once. After each use, dispose of filter and WASH YOUR HANDS. Machine wash your mask in hot water BEFORE first use and again AFTER each use. Tumble dry. Iron as needed.

WHAT IF MY MASK IS TOO BIG OR TOO SMALL?

The best solution for a sizing issue is to get a household item (like a string, shoelace, paper clip, elastic band, etc.). Feed this through the ear loops of the mask and then secure at the back of your head when you have found a comfortable length.

HOW DOES THE HEPA FILTER HELP?

According to some experts, HEPA filters can help reduce the number of particles or germs that can pass through. You can purchase HEPA filters at your local hardware store or online.

HOW CAN I ORDER ONE?

Pre-order the slow-the-spread mask today to support our efforts in delivering masks where they’re needed most. We will ship your mask and donate a 10% of the purchase to Mealshare. There is no limit on quantities, but we are only accepting daily pre-orders of 500 at this time. Shipping details and costs are included at time of purchase. Please allow up to 2 weeks for delivery on face mask purchases. Currently, colour selections are not available. HOW DO I WEAR MY SLOW-THE-SPREAD MASK?

Machine wash your mask in hot water before first use and again after each use. Tumble dry. Iron as needed.

Insert HEPA filter into the mask insert. Place it over your nose and mouth and pull the straps around your ears (your mask should fit snug). Press down on the bendable wire around the edge of your mask and mould around your nose and cheeks. Once moulded do not touch your mask until it is time to remove. After each use, dispose of filter and WASH YOUR HANDS. Mask filter template will be available shortly.
